8 Days Rwanda Exceptional Safari

An 8-day safari in Rwanda is a lifetime wildlife and gorilla experience that won’t leave you the same. Starting from Kigali airport, the trip takes travelers to Volcanoes national park to trek mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, canopy walk and chimp trekking in Nyungwe forest, leisure activities on Lake Kivu and cultural expeditions in Huye town and Ibyiwachu cultural village.

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Pick up from Kigali international airport and transfer to Volcanoes national park, on arrival have lunch and head for a cultural encounter at the Ibyiwachu community center.

Have a one on one with Rwandese people as they showcase their beautiful culture through the traditional Intore dance companied by the strong melodies of the drums and dancers, their hunting and gathering skills, brew making skills and millet grinding among others. After this encounter return to the lodge for a rest and dinner.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park

After an early morning breakfast, report to the park headquarters about the dos and don’ts while trekking the gorillas. This park has more than 10 habituated gorilla families, 8 permits are offered to each group giving a wide base on the gorilla experience.

As you trek these beautiful species in the forest, you will also have a chance to view amazing bird species such as the Red-backed shrike, Cinnamon-chested bee-eater, Bateleur, Blue-spotted wood dove and Baglafecht weaver etc.

After a thrilling walk in the slippery trails of the park, head to the lodge for a rest and supper.

Day 3: Golden monkey trekking

One this day, you will have a chance to trek these golden patched monkeys which is one of a lifetime experience for any traveler, as you go through the beautiful bamboo vegetation.

This activity will commence just right after a mini briefing at the headquarters. The park has two monkey troops, the sabyinyo side with the largest number of golden monkeys, where you will trek and the volcanoes side with the least number of these primates.

Have an experience with these primates as they feed of the bamboo roots and swing between tree branches.

Day 4: Transfer to Lake Kivu, boat cruise

As you still ponder on the primate experience in volcanoes national park, have breakfast and later drive to Lake Kivu. Here a boat ride will be organized, after lunch for a freshening and relaxing evening.

While on this ride, one will be able to relax and enjoy the beautiful sunsets at the dawn. After this chill activity check in at hotel where you will have a sleepover and dinner.

Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe national park and canopy walk.

After a warm cup of tea at the hotel embark on a drive to Nyungwe national park for another adventure.

You will have an evening canopy walk that will expose to the entire scenic view of the forest. As you walk 9m above the ground in view of beautiful vegetation, birds and mammals moving around Nyungwe national park.

This activity will take about 2 hours of thrill and fun. Later on return to the lodge for relaxation as you wait for your dinner.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking

You will wake up early in the morning for another primate experience, as chimpanzee trekking starts as early as 6:00 am. The park has two habituated chimpanzee groups that are to be visited and only 1 hour is given to stay with them, having a full face to face encounter with these species.

You will be allowed to take pictures and keep good memories of these species.  Head back for relaxation at the lodge as you wait for dinner and a warm overnight stay.

Day 7: Transfer to Kigali via Huye.

Have breakfast check out of the lodge and prepare for another journey to one of Rwanda’s historical town – Huye. You will visit the king’s palace, museums and the national university of Rwanda.

Day 7: Departure

This day will be the end of Your 8 days tour in Rwanda. After breakfast, you will drive to Kigali International Airport for departure to your next destination.
