Detailed Tour
Day 1: Pick up, city tour and drive to Volcanoes national park
On this day, our driver-guide will be glad to come and pick you up for the safari from your lodge or Kigali international airport, going ahead to brief you on what will take place during the three days’ adventure, any inquiry is welcome at this point.
Thereafter, start your safari with a city tour, where you will exchange money, visit the local markets to buy some souvenirs and missing safari items, and then proceed to the genocide memorial grounds where millions of innocent people who were killed during the 1994 Rwanda Genocide were buried.
Have lunch around the city before embarking on a two-hour smooth drive to Volcanoes national park where you will arrive at your lodge in the evening ready for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking and cultural encounter
As soon as you are done with the last dot of tea in your cup, pack your trekking pieces of equipment such as camera, binoculars, drinking water among others and drive to the park’s headquarters fully clad on long-sleeved shirts and a trouser, ready to join fellow trackers for a brief induction on the dos and don’ts while in the jungle with the gentle apes, as well as document verification.
The park ranger will then allocate you to a gorilla family of your interest and be escorted deep in the Jungle to search for them, an activity that lasts for approximately 6 hours depending on your walking speed, but with several birds, primates and tree species to encounter on the way.
Upon meeting the creatures playing, feeding and conversing with each other in the lonely world, you will be given one hour to take photos while studying their unique behaviors before going for lunch and refreshment.
In the evening, you will have an exciting cultural encounter with the locals living in Ibyiwachu cultural village, who will demonstrate to you authentic Rwandan culture by taking you through some interesting local songs, traditional dances and sweet stories up to the time you will return to the lodge for dinner and a nap.
Day 3: Morning golden monkey trekking and afternoon canoe ride along the twin lakes
Wake up very early in the morning for breakfast, before going for golden monkey trekking that starts with apretrekking briefing at the park’s headquarters by the knowledgeable park rangers who will tell you the benefits of trekking these creatures and what you need to do while in the wilderness with them.
Golden monkeys are very swift, attractive and active species of apes that stay on trees and keep switching from one tree branch to another, they are vegetarians and very exciting creatures to watch.
So after the 2-5 hours of tracking, make it a point to keep the camera on alert if you will get the best photo of the creatures, feeding or playing.
You will return and relax a bit, then enjoy a mouth-watering meal followed by a drive to the twin lakes where you will have a canoe ride that gives you an opportunity of spotting unique bird species and several nearby islands. Call off the day with dinner and overnight at your lodge.
Day 4: Nature walk and departure
After breakfast, you will have a guided nature walk by an expert guide who will take you around some rewarding places with amazing sceneries, unique plant species, mammals, birds and photographic spots.
