2 Days Mount Karisimbi Hiking Adventure

Explore and love it, the 2 days Karisimbi hiking adventure is a mixture of discoveries, amazing views and strenuous yet rewarding exercise of hiking to the summit of the 5th highest volcano in Africa, and one of the eight renowned volcanoes in the Virunga chain of mountains.

Mount Karisimbi is situated in a western fraction of the East African Great rift valley as well as a position in Volcanoes national park, home to the Mountain Gorillas. In the north of Mount Karisimbi, you will see Mount Mikeno, to the east is Mount Bisoke, and to the west is Mount Nyiragongo. Months of December to March, and June to August, are dry months and best for hiking. 

Day 1: Pick up and Hiking Mount Karisimbi (3,700m)

Very early in the morning, our expert driver-guide will pick you up from the agreed point, and start the drive to Volcanoes National park, the host to Mount Karisimbi, where the hiking is to be held. He will be briefing you while on the smooth drive that will as well expose you to several bird species and locals going for cultivation.

Arrive at the park at approximately 8:00 am, and head for a briefing by knowledgeable guides who will tell you the dos and don’ts while hiking. Thereafter, the guide, a porter (if you will need any) and security personnel will accompany you for the hike right from the foot of Mount Bisoke.

This hike will take approximately 6 hours to the camp for dinner and overnight, after several stopovers for rest but also having fascinating views of several rolling hills, primates such as monkeys and a slight view of Mount Nyiragongo on a clear day.

Day 2: Proceed to the summit and Departure

After breakfast, the journey that started some 24 hours back continues, as you proceed to the top of the Volcano where you will be able to see the crater lake as well as the neighboring volcanoes of Virunga chain mountains.

Thereafter, descend and join your guide who will take you for lunch before driving you to either Kigali International airport or your accommodation, depending on the agreement.
