This 4 day gorilla trip and Lake Bunyonyi is a must see for your safari trip to the pearl of Africa. A visit to Bwindi impenetrable national park for an ultimate gorilla experience will be made, as get a chance to have a face to face encounter with the world’s great species of the gorillas.
Trekking of the gorillas will be done in the Rushaga sector found in the southern region of Bwindi. After a gorilla experience, a refreshing set back at Lake Bunyonyi will be a worthwhile adventure that you will experience on this 4-day trip.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Bwindi impenetrable N/park
Have breakfast at your hotel, pick up by our professional guide who will brief you entirely about the 4 days’ gorilla and Lake Bunyonyi trip. Straight away start off your journey to south western Uganda via Mbarara highway.
A stop over at the equator in Kayabwe will be made for photography and some relaxation as long journey still waits for you. Have lunch in Mbarara town at Igongo cultural hotel. Proceed with your journey to Rushaga sector in Kisoro-Rubuguri region. On arrival, check in at the lodge for an overnight and dinner.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking
Wake up early for a warm breakfast and get ready to have a lifetime exposure on the gorillas in their natural habitat. Head to the park headquarters, for a briefing about personal conduct while trekking the beautiful primates. After go ahead with the trek as you will be led by range guide will help you spot the location of a gorilla family.
As you walk through the beautiful silent forest be expectant to view a number of birds and butterflies on your way, as they sing and beautifully flap around the entire forest.
Upon finding the gorilla family you will spend one hour interacting with these species, as you take pictures and video coverage of them feeding on plant roots and leaves, resting in the dark green vegetation and also playing with each other with tools which is mesmerizing eyesight not else in the world.
Trekking will take 2 to 6 hours and only a group of 8 individuals with permits will be allowed to participate in the activity. Return to the lodge for rest and a delicious dinner.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
As the beautiful memories of the gorilla experience still ponder in your mind, you will have a tasty breakfast and get ready for a drive to Lake Bunyonyi which is a 2-hour drive.
Have a boat ride to the Akampene Island a.k.a “punishment island”, an island with traditional history attached to it, as girls that got pregnant before marriage would be taken and abandoned on this island as a sign of disappointment and a lesson to the younger girls.
After this ride on the lake, return for lunch as you prepare for community visit around the lake. You will visit the local villages and have an insight of the livelihood of the people that live around the lake. Later on head back to the lodge.
Day 4: Transfer to Kampala, eclipse monument.
Have early morning breakfast, prepare for a journey back to Kampala. Have stopover for lunch in Mbarara and a hike to the Biharwe Eclipse monument that will reward you a beautiful view of Mbarara town.
Thereafter proceed with your journey to the city. This will be the end of our 4 day gorilla and Lake Bunyonyi trip. It’s advised not to book for departure flight this day due to the long tiresome travel distance from south western Uganda.
