Day 1: Pickup, city tour and transfer to Goma
On this day, our company representative will be at the agreed point at the agreed time to pick you up for the 5days unforgettable experience. As you meet, you will brief you about the entire trip, telling you pros and cons, before embarking on the 5-6 hours’ drive to the Democratic Republic of Congo, commence with a tour around the city where you will visit the local market to buy few missing items plus souvenirs, and exchange money, then proceed for lunch. After lunch, you will have a 30-minute experience at the genocide memorial grounds before continuing with your journey to D.R. Congo, arriving in the evening for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Hiking to the peak of Mount Nyiragongo
Wake up to a very tasty cup of coffee, after which you will pack all your hiking items in the Bag then drive to Kibati patrol post, the trailhead of Mount Nyiragongo for a briefing about how to reach the summit that takes roughly 5-6 hours.
The hiking exercise starts at 10:30 am local time, with the guidance of an expert guide and a security person, which will be walking on the speed of the slowest member of the group, while having a rest after every given period and Lunch at the selected point. There are some primates, birds, Virunga national parks and scenic Sceneries to watch as photos as after. The Journey progresses to the peak of the most active volcano; on arrival, you will be amazed by the unbelievable wonder left behind after the eruption, as you take photDay3: Descend Mount Nyiragongo. Dinner and a nap will be at the top at a campsite, so move along with warm clothes.
Day 3: Descend mount Nyiragongo and Head to Kahuzi-Biega national park
Start your day with an amazing view of the sunrise as you enjoy a cup of coffee, after which you will embark on a 2-3 hours’ journey to the base of the mountain where the driver guide will be gladly waiting to take you to the lodge for lunch, before checking out, for a 3-4 hours’ drive to Kahuzi Biega national park. This smooth drive will leave you smiling at the beautiful rolling hills, the Rwanda natives, and the green vegetation. Arrival will be in the evening for dinner and a nap at your lodge.
Day 4: Low land gorilla trekking
After an early morning breakfast, you will drive to the park’s headquarters where you will join other members for a briefing and document verification process by the expert park rangers who will be telling you the pros and cons of trekking. Thereafter, they will allocate you to the family of your choice that you will track through the guidance of an expert park ranger for approximately 1-4 hours, depending on your fitness and how far these gentle apes have moved.
The lowland gorillas have thick bodies as compared to the mountain gorillas and you will watch and take photos of these gentle apes as they play, the mothers feed nurse their young ones whereas the giant silverbacks offer security to the entire troop in the one hour offered to you. After the encounter, drive back to the lodge and evening relaxation, followed by dinner and a nap.
Day 5: Depart Kahuzi-Biega national park for Kigali International airport
Welcome the day with breakfast, before embarking on a 4-6 hours’ drive to Kigali international airport. You may have an optional stopover at Nyanza museum or Butare city for a cultural excursion.
