On this 4 day double gorilla trekking safari, get ready to witness an amazing experience in one of Uganda’s prominent national park – Bwindi impenetrable forest that is found in the south western region of Uganda. Visit at least 2 mountain gorilla sectors of Bwindi N/park; Buhoma sector in the north and Ruhija sector in south East for an ultimate gorilla trekking experience. This trip will also involve other fun activities such as birding and culture community visits.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Ruhija sector of Bwindi N/park.
Have an early morning breakfast, pick up from your hotel by the company’s guide, who will brief you entirely about the 4 days double gorilla trip. Drive to south western Uganda to Bwindi impenetrable national park. Have an enroute lunch at Igongo cultural center in Mbarara and then proceed to Ruhija sector.
On your way you will traverse through the beautiful hills of the west and nearing the park, a glimpse of Lake Bunyonyi and its dotted 29 islands will leave you amazed at how the beauty was created. Later on arrival at the park, check in at the lodge where dinner and a sleep over will be prepared.
Day 2: First gorilla trekking experience in Ruhija. Overnight in Buhoma sector.
Wake up early for warm energizing breakfast, as you prepare for a day hike in Ruhija forest for the mountain gorillas. Head for a briefing at the sector’s headquarters and later proceed well geared for the trek.
This search in the jungle led by the park’s guide will take about 2 to 6 hours till you find the allocated gorilla family. Only one hour will be spent with these beauties as you will be allowed to carry memories with you through photography and video coverage of a mountain gorilla family.
You will experience the livelihood of these species as you witness them feeding, playing and sometimes fighting with each other. After this adventurous activity, return to the lodge for relaxation and later drive to Buhoma sector for supper and accommodation.
Day 3: Gorilla trekking in Buhoma
One this day, you will have another gorilla trekking experience in Buhoma sector that is found in the northern region of Bwindi. After an early breakfast, drive to Buhoma to catch up with gorilla trekking on time. Reach at the park headquarters for briefing and continue to trek the allocated mountain gorilla family.
This sector is the most visited among all the four, due to its easy accessibility and friendliest habituated gorilla families. Trekking will only be in a group of 8 members and only an hour will be spent while taking pictures and interact with the gorillas that dwell within the jungles.
There will be an optional visit to the Batwa community for a cultural encounter. After, head back to the lodge for a delicious meal and sleep over.
Day 4: Transfer to Kampala
This day will mark the end of 4 days double gorilla trekking Bwindi forest. Have breakfast early in the morning and set off for a journey to Kampala, passing via Rukungiri – Kasese – Mbarara highway.
Have an enroute lunch in Mbarara and proceed to Kampala where you will branch off to Entebbe international airport for departure to your next destination.
