The 3 days safari to Mgahinga takes you to one of Uganda’s smallest national parks but yet richly gifted with the world’s endangered species – mountain gorillas and the golden monkeys, making it the only park where gorillas co-exist with golden monkeys, hence its slogan “where silver meets gold”. It is found in the south western region of Uganda. also has other attractions such as birds that will still be experienced on this 3 days safari.
Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Mgahinga national park
Pick up from your hotel by the company guides, a briefing about the 3 days safari tour in Mgahinga and start off the journey to Kisoro district south western Uganda that is approximately 8 hours of drive. Have an enroute lunch at Igongo cultural center near Mbarara town. Continue the journey to the park for dinner and an overnight after a long tiresome journey.
Day 2: Gorilla trekking and golden monkey trekking
Have an early morning breakfast, head to the parks headquarters for a briefing about the do’s and don’ts while trekking by a guide. After the briefing, head for a 2-8-hour trek in the ever green vegetation. You will obviously trek the Nyakagezi family – the only habituated gorilla family in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Trek for 2 to 8 hours and spend only one hour with the family when found.
Mountain gorillas being the closest human cousins have interesting human like traits that will be witnessed on meeting the family. These species play, feed, nurture just as humans, giving fun and breathtaking experience as you take pictures of them. After this activity return to the lodge for lunch and prepare for golden trekking that will take about 4 hours. And travel back for supper and a sleepover after a fun and fruitful day in the jungle.
Day 3: Transfer back to Kampala.
This 3rd day will mark the end of Mgahinga gorilla and golden monkey safari after breakfast; start your journey to Kampala via Masaka – Mbarara highway and drop off at Entebbe airport for departure to your next destination.
